FERENCE, CITY OF ORD WIN 2009 NRD AWARDS
Ord High School Ag Teacher and FFA Advisor Dave Ference and the City of Ord were named the recipients of two Natural Resources/Conservation Awards for 2009. Ference was named the Natural Resources Educator of the Year and Ord received Outstanding Community Conservation Award for the Auble Pond renovation and Ord Recreational Trail.
The Nebraska Association of Resources Districts presents the awards annually. The Educator Award recognizes outstanding natural resources education efforts in Nebraska. The community award rewards outstanding community conservation efforts and promotes community conservation projects in Nebraska.
Ference has been the agriculture education instructor for Ord Junior-Senior High School for over 20 years. His students have a tradition of success in Envirothon, land judging, range judging contests and other agricultural competitions.
The Community Conservation Award recognized Ord’s renovation of Auble Pond and the creation of the recreational trail that circles the lake and continues north to the Lower Loup NRD arboretum.
The Lower Loup Natural Resources District nominated Ference and the City of Ord for the awards. It was presented at the Nebraska Association of Resources Districts annual conference in Kearney September 28th.
