LLNRD HOSTS CEDAR MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP
The Lower Loup Natural Resources District held a workshop designed to assist landowners with a balanced approach to eastern red cedar management on September 16, 2008 near Taylor.
The program included information on the role wooded draws play in the landscape, their function in the watershed, habitat diversity, and the market potential for traditional or woody biomass products. There were also presentations on rangeland management practices, cost-share programs, and prescribed burning options.
Presenters at the workshop included North Central District Forester Rich Woollen of the Nebraska Forest Service, Rangeland Management Specialist Leah Carson of the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Thedford, and Range Management Specialist David Carr of the Central Platte Natural Resources District in Grand Island. The workshop also featured equipment demonstrations.
The workshop was funded through a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust and is presented in cooperation with the Nebraska Forest Service. For more information on eastern red cedar management, contact the Lower Loup Natural Resources District in Ord, (308) 728-3221.
