NEW SUBDISTRICT BOUNDARIES APPROVED

New boundaries for the subdistricts in the Lower Loup Natural Resources District have been approved by the NRD’s Board of Directors. The new boundaries reflect population data from the 2010 Census.

NRD General Manager Leon "Butch" Koehlmoos said that the new boundaries meet the one person, one vote standard in the state of Nebraska. That standard requires that the populations of subdistricts be substantially equal to each other. Each of the subdistricts represents approximately 6,900 residents.

District Engineer Robert Mohler said that, by law, the new subdistricts were based on county voting precinct lines. He said that attention was also paid to maintaining incumbent directors in their current subdistrict.

Half the subdistrict seats will be up for re-election in 2012. Incumbents must file for re-election by February 15th and all other candidates must file for the office by March 1st. The primary election in Nebraska will be held on May 15.
