Winning photographs have been chosen in the Lower Loup NRD’s 2022 Photo Contest. In the competition that ran from late November 2021 to May 15, 2022, a total of 43 photographers from across the Lower Loup NRD and beyond submitted 495 images. Subjects photographed included community events, landscapes, cityscapes, people, architecture, nature, recreation, and wildlife. The following photographers were recognized:
• Gary Micek, Elyria. First Place, for scenic image of Turtle Creek and field at Micek Farm.
• Robyn Koelling, Ord. Second Place, for image of anglers on frozen Davis Creek Reservoir.
• Alex Hall, Columbus. Third place, aerial image of Columbus at sunset.
Micek’s first-place image will be printed, framed, and displayed at the LLNRD Headquarters in Ord. After one year, when the following year’s photo contest winning image replaces it, Micek will be presented with his winning print. He will also receive a tree bundle, and all three places will receive Lower Loup NRD logo items.
“Some photographers submitted images that they had on hand. Others used the contest as an opportunity to further explore the Lower Loup NRD,” said LLNRD Information Specialist Alan Bartels. “We hope residents of the District, and our visitors, will continue exploring the Lower Loup NRD – the largest of Nebraska’s Natural Resources Districts – there is a lot to see and do here. And we hope they’ll be shooting photos along the way in preparation for the 2023 Lower Loup NRD Photo Contest.”
