The Lower Loup NRD is a site in the 2017 Great Park PursuitThe Lower Loup Natural Resources District’s Arboretum, next to the NRD headquarters offices in Ord, is a location for the 2017 Great Park Pursuit (GPP).   The arboretum is one of 21 sites around the state to participate in the program, which offers participants the chance to win prizes based on visits to these recreation spots.

The Nebraska Recreation and Park Association and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission partnered in 2008 to develop the program.  The goal is to help promote active lifestyles while increasing awareness of the nature rich outdoor recreation opportunities throughout Nebraska.  NeRPA is the Nebraska Recreation and Park Association, an active non-profit organization comprised of professionals and advocates dedicated to the promotion of park resources and recreation advancement in the State of Nebraska.

To participate in the Great Park Pursuit, groups or families need to register on-line here. Select a username and password for the group or family.  Then select a park from the list of 21 participating locations.  Print that location’s “Park Page” and visit the park.  When you find the Great Park Pursuit post with the nature impression on top, make a tracing on the park page using a pencil or crayon.  Visit as many of the 21 spots as possible and make impressions at each.  You must mail in the impressions by September 18, 2017 to be eligible for a prize drawing.  More information is available on the web site.

Lower Loup NRD General Manager Leon “Butch” Koehlmoos said that the District is pleased that the arboretum was selected for the program.  He said that visitors will enjoy a visit to the arboretum and he invited them to stroll the Ord Recreational Trail which loops through the arboretum.

The program and registration are free.  Participants only need to pay for postage when mailing in nature impressions and for entry into some of the park sites.  Anyone can participate. Groups can be made up of individuals, families, friends, coworkers, youth organizations or any other group. Prizes are awarded per household or group. Registration is limited to one group per household.  Get more info here.
