Nitrogen Use Efficiency Program

April 17 2026

The Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment (DWEE) is heading a new Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) Program for the 2026 growing season. Participants who achieve an NUE of 1.0 or lower on their 2026 crop will be paid a $15 an acre incentive. Applications are due by May 15th, 2026.

Credits that will be taken into account to determine field NUE are nitrogen from irrigation water, residual nitrogen in the soil, organic matter, manure, and legume credits. Each application is limited to 160 acres, but producers may have multiple applications.
